About Amicus Rattery

My name is Siobhan and I have been keeping rats as pets since 1996. My first rat was a champagne doe called Ramone who came from a local pet shop. After owning Ramone I soon realised what wonderful pets rats make and became a 'rat addict'. In 1998 I joined the National Fancy Rat Society and became interested in showing. I started showing and breeding Rex, BEW and Siamese. In 2000 I moved to Devon and in 2001 I became unable to attend shows due to work commitments and personal circumstances. Although I stopped showing and breeding I still continued to keep rats.
In 2005 I was in a position to be able to start showing rats again. With my love of the Rex there was no other choice for me. I chose Pearl as I have always had a love of the colour. I decided to call my Rattery Amicus as 'amicus' is the latin word for friend and I felt 'friend' best described the way I feel about all my rats, whether they are show/breeding rats, retired rats, pet rats (not in my breeding plans) or the waifs and strays which have joined the Amicus Family for one reason or another. All my rats are very dear to me and have a special place in my heart.
I DO NOT cull kittens or adults and neither do I re-home retired rats. In most cases I will only have one litter from a doe, in expectional circumstances I will have two. I only ever breed from friendly, sociable rats in good health, this goes for both doe and buck. Colour and type come second to producing affectionate loving pets for both myself and new owners to enjoy throughout the rats' lives. I do have kittens looking for loving homes and if you are interested in reserving kittens from me please get in touch. As all my rats are so special to me I vet all potential owners to ensure my babies are going to the best homes possible. All owners receive a life time of care from me and I request regular updates as well as photos. I am always on hand to offer advice to people with my rats and also offer to rat sit (space and time being available) any of my babies while owners are away.
I attend NFRS shows throughout the year in and around the South West. I enjoy showing my rats as I am very proud of them and it is a wonderful social event to catch up with 'ratty' friends and chat 'rat' for the day. If we come home with a rosette it is just a bonus to an already enjoyable day.
